About Dr. Carlson

Dr. Torie Carlson received his Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from Ball State University in Muncie,  Indiana in 2002.  He completed his residency at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Health Psychology.  Upon completion of the residency, Dr. Carlson took a position as an Assistant Professor in the department.   His responsibilities included training psychology interns to work in the North, as well as consulting to the Nor-Man Regional Health Authority in Flin Flon and The Pas, Manitoba.  There he worked with the Community Mental Health teams in the region and provided assessments, treatment planning and case consultations.  He also consulted to the 8-bed inpatient unit in The Pas.  In August 2004, Dr. Carlson moved to the Bow Valley to take a position with The Canmore Pain Clinic helping people adjust to having chronic pain.  In 2008, he moved from this position to work in Complex Pain and Burn Treatment at the Alberta Children’s Hospital giving him the flexibility to meet the needs of clients in the Bow Valley and Northwest Calgary, to a greater extent.  Over the past few years he has also begun more formal work with Canadian Military and Allied Service people in a group-based, trauma-focussed intervention with the Veterans Transition Network. He is currently registered in Alberta and Saskatchewan to practice as a Psychologist and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary.
